The Louisville Rose Society is a non-profit organization affiliated with the American Rose Society. In addition to educational programs, some of the benefits of membership are a monthly bulletin called Rose Leaves, garden tours, assistance from local consulting rosarians, and the friendship of other rose growers. We recommend having a soil test taken for your rose garden every year at the same time. Your county extension center can perform this test, and they will also provide a breakdown of the macro and micro-nutrient makeup of the soil as well. If soil is too alkaline, add agricultural grade sulfur, or better yet, compost. Add limestone for soils which are too acidic. The soil test should make specific recommendations and application rates.
